Meet the Artist: Katie Phillips Parrish

Meet the Artist: Katie Phillips Parrish

For Katie Phillips Parrish, original art carries something deeply personal: the energy of the artist who created it. Through her colorful mixed-media paintings, Katie hopes that energy becomes a lasting source of joy and connection in the homes of her collectors.

Based in Johns Creek, Georgia, Katie is a self-taught fine artist who first picked up a paintbrush at 16. Over the decades, she has developed a style that feels both playful and refined. Her intuitive process combines layers of color, texture, and expressive marks, resulting in work that balances spontaneity with intention. From abstracts and florals to bird portraits and landscapes, Katie’s paintings celebrate beauty and the stories found in everyday life.

Katie does her best creative work in the morning, before the day becomes too noisy. Knowing when a piece is finished, however, sometimes requires patience. If something isn’t clicking, she places the painting in “time out” for a week or so. With fresh eyes, the detail that needs attention eventually reveals itself—and a piece is complete when she no longer feels the urge to “fix” it.

Community is central to Katie’s journey. Her husband has been her loudest cheerleader from the beginning—even helping her set up for art festivals. She is also deeply grateful for her network of artist friends, who understand the creative blocks, frustrations, victories, and uncertainty that come with an art career. Most of all, she loves hearing why a particular painting resonates with a collector.

Before becoming a full-time artist, Katie spent more than 20 years in corporate marketing. Today, she brings that experience to The Splatter Effect podcast and to her role leading marketing and operations for the KP Art Collective—championing fellow artists while continuing to create joyful, meaningful work of her own.
