Artist Feature: Kelsey Nichols | Shells, Stories, and the Sea

Inspired by the Sea and Its Treasures

Kelsey’s collection began with her lifelong fascination with shells—their delicate forms, soft hues, and the stories they hold. Each piece reflects her deep appreciation for creation and the divine artistry woven into nature.

“Shells alone are God’s treasures and their own little works of art,” Kelsey shares. “If you take the time to truly inspect them and study their beauty, you can only see that God’s hand is all over them. There’s no other explanation.”

Her Sailors Valentines blend historic charm with modern grace, transforming the age-old tradition of handcrafted shell mosaics into timeless keepsakes for today’s collector. Each design celebrates both the beauty of the natural world and the spiritual truth it reflects.

Kelsey hopes her work evokes a sense of nostalgia and warmth—a reminder of favorite beach trips and moments spent by the sea.

“I’m hoping with my collection of Sailors Valentines, it reminds my collectors of a trip to the beach or a family vacation,” she says. “Just because you don’t live at the beach doesn’t mean you can’t appreciate the beauty of a shell.”

Her art bridges distance and time, allowing collectors to carry a piece of coastal calm wherever they live.

“My family and friends encourage, support, and inspire me,” she shares. “The community of artists I know are so supportive. I’m not sure there’s another line of work where your competitors are also your encouragers, supporters, and clients.”

Though Kelsey describes herself as an “early bird” who creates when the mood strikes, there’s consistency in the heart behind every piece she makes. Her process is guided by intuition and faith—trusting that quiet, certain moment when she simply knows a piece is complete.

“When you know, you know,” she says with a smile.

Kelsey finds joy in knowing that her art brings warmth and beauty into homes across the country. “It brings me great joy to think about all the walls my work covers,” she shares. “Thank you!”
